Marine valves have been in high humidity, high salt spray and vibration environments for a long time. Material selection should consider the medium, temperature, pressure, external environment and maintenance conditions at the same time. Simply improving the material grade does not necessarily mean it is more suitable for the project.
Material evaluation suggestions
First, confirm the compatibility of the valve body, valve parts and sealing materials with the cargo medium; secondly, evaluate the impact of seawater, salt spray and condensation water on the outer surface and connectors; finally, combine the spare parts supply, processing technology and maintenance cycle to confirm the economy.
For oil tanker and chemical tanker projects, materials, surface treatment and sealing solutions should also be consistent with classification society requirements, project specifications and manufacturer's effective technical documents. The final selection of materials shall be determined by the project technical conditions and formal confirmation documents.
